I heard about this super weird glitch in Donkey Kong Country so I had to try it out for myself. Sure enough, it works. I recorded it to show you guys.

Just watch:

Once you appear on the mysterious Donkey Kong/Rambi hybrid, you’re limited to just moving around with the D-Pad for if you press any of the face buttons, everything returns to normal.

My question is, how did somebody figure this out? Surely it was an accident. And, even more importantly, if it was an accident, how did they know exactly what to do to recreate it? Now, I’ve been known to have a little too much fun finding glitches in video games (more so in earlier years than today) but some people just have too much time on their hands!

Once again it seems as if another year has given us the slip. Did 2009 feel like it went by too fast? Yes.

Just like I said it last year, it seems like everyone says that about every year:
“is it really [insert year] already?”

The way I see it, time is always whizzing by and it’s all relative. These days, a year doesn’t seem like much anymore because you have so many under your belt. If this is true, when I’m 50, will each year feel half as short? I hope not.

A lot happened this year, though. An amazing amount of things, actually.

To name a few; we got a trampoline, I learned how to make delicious curry, I had my first art exhibition in a gallery setting, Keymaster was born, I graduated, I met Tiffany, started taking a dance class, moved into a new place, did my first paid freelance job (whoo!), went to Dragon*Con, Went to Jacksonville, got to know both of my last grandparents a little better, and saw 2 great concerts. There’s so much more, though.

I always learn so much about myself and everyone else around me. I gained new appreciation for things and lost appreciation for others but that’s life. Always has been, and always will be.

In regards to last year’s post: am I any better at the drums? No, not really… but that doesn’t bother me. I’m sure I’ll get to it eventually. 2010 could be full of surprises. I have no idea what’s going to happen.

I just bought a CD…yeah, with money . Crazy, huh?

but that’s not the point.

The album is of an amazing songstress, Marie MacGillis and her band, The Model Millionaires. Anyways, there isn’t much in the way of samples of her music so I thought I’d at least check youtube to see if there were any videos of her performances. Well there were just a few but in the related videos was an old, old, Jazz trumpeteer named Bunk Johnson. The video was of a song of his called “Sister Kate” and I thought, “wait… Sister Kate? That’s a song by the equally amazing Ditty Bops. I wonder if they’re the same.”

Turns out they are. The Ditty Bops drew their inspiration for this tune from Bunk Johnson.

Here’s the Ditty Bops’ “Sister Kate” from their first album, The Ditty Bops

And here is Bunk Johnson’s version from way back in the 40′s

Love it when that happens!

*edit

Turns out this thing goes even deeper than that. The song was originally titled “I Wish I Could Shimmy Like My Sister Kate” and was an old New Orleans tune written by Clarence Williams and Armand Piron in the early 1920s. Even deeper than that, the song was believed to be inspired by an even older tune by Louis Armstrong about Kate Townsend, a murdered brothel madam. Either that or transcribed from a version performed by Anna Jones and Fats Waller.

The song has since been recorded dozens of times by a bunch of different people including The Beatles and Shel Silverstein (I didn’t even know he was a songwriter!)

I LOVE Wikipedia.

So, I owe Alex somewhat of an apology. After growing the moustache (yeah, I know it’s spelled “mustache” these days but I’m more a fan of the old-timey “moustache“) out for a while I realized that Alex was right. It really doesn’t look THAT bad and and it filled out more than I thought it would. Granted, it could be much fuller. I ultimately ended up shaving it off because it felt weird on my face.
Here’s a picture of what it looked like before I shaved it off.

Ok, funny story time.

I’m in the Intro to Craft class this semester and right now we’re doing yarn weaving on a loom to create tapestries. We were given these weaving needles to use and they’re pretty huge. (as far as needles go). Well, today I was in a hurry to get out of there to get to my Design club meeting so I was moving very quickly. My storage cabinet is at the very bottom of the column and, literally, at floor level. After shoving my stuff into it, I noticed the needle rolling out as I was getting up so, being in a hurry, I quickly grabbed it to toss it back in.

After it left my hand, the eye end of it got caught on the top of my cabinet, halting the trajectory of the needle. Here’s the problem : My hand was still moving from the momentum of the toss. The now stationary needle was able to drive itself into my still moving hand right through the skin on my middle finger which, really, is quite impressive because the needle isn’t exactly sharp. In fact, it’s “point” is quite rounded.

It didn’t hurt or anything but it really caught me by surprise as I had no idea what had just happened. I looked at my hand to see the needle held in place by my skin.

Needle ► skin ► needle ► BLOOD

Lots of it. It’s pretty funny how much it bled cause it really didn’t hurt. The sight of it made me crack up, though.

Anyways, here’s some pictures of the needle, the wound, and one to show how big the needle actually is, respectively:

Oh, that last picture marks the 3,822nd picture taken with my camera. I’ve had it since May

Alex doesn’t believe me.

We’ve all had them at some point or another with certain frequency. They’re not necessarily a rare occurrence but not all too common either. No one really knows why they only surface some mornings and go into hiding the very next.

Yes, I’m talking about sleep-lines

So what are sleep-lines? Well, as I’m sure we all know from experience, sleep-lines are cause by the weight of your body on top of the the fabric covering your bed. After a period of time the pattern from the folds become embossed into your skin; a nice little relief illustration, if you would, of your latest night time endeavor.

Ok, so we all know that they are. They happen. What’s the big deal, right?

The reason why I’m posting this is because I feel there is more than meets the eye when it comes to sleep-lines. I’m sure many people think they mean nothing but I have a different viewpoint. I feel that the occurrence of sleep-lines marks an exceptionally restful night of sleep by the wearer of them.

But why? They’re just how you were laying on your sheets.

True, but ask yourself this. Why not every night? Why do the sheets only grace your skin with their image every now and then? The answer is simple. Because you moved less during the night and therefore gave the sheets long enough to temporarily etch themselves into your skin. If your sleep isn’t as restful as it could be, you might toss and turn (even if its just a little) therefore restricting the sheet’s ability to seep it’s pattern into your outermost layer. The less you toss and turn at night, the deeper sleep you are considered to have.
Therefore:

Sleep-Lines = Deep and restful night of sleep.

Think about it.

I saw this earlier today and got really excited about giving it a try because it seemed easy enough. I called Marcus, explained the project and went to Wal-Mart to buy the necessary supplies and got to work. Well, a few minor bleach stains on my shirt (hopefully not my tie…I left it over at Marcus’ after rinsing it off…I hope it made it out ok) and a failed experiment later, I’ve got nothing cool to show for it. so I guess I’ll just post the video instead of my attempts at it because it didn’t work.

It’s still cool regardless.
